Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Washim

The architect of Washim Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Late Baliram More (Patil), donated his land free of cost to establish the Market Committee. Thus, Washim Market Committee was established by breaking the coconut of Muhurta by "Sant Tukadoji Maharaj" on 10/07/1899 as per the Hyderabad Residency Act. Since then, as he said, the farmer who brought the new farm produce to the yard for the first time in the season is honored with a shawl and Shreephal and worships the agricultural produce. Only after that, Harrashi begins. This innovative initiative is implemented/maintained even today.

Also, the current work is being done as per the Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Purchase and Sale (Regulation) Act, 1963 and 1967. Washim Agricultural Produce Market Committee is the leading market committee of the district and the necessary infrastructure facilities have been provided in the market committee for the sale of agricultural produce and efforts are being made to create facilities that will be created over time. Also, many farmer representatives represented this organization. Since India is an agricultural country, the main occupation of the people of this country was agriculture. Therefore, the people of rural areas were largely dependent on agricultural income. Therefore, due to the decentralized market system in the pre-independence period, weekly markets or market rights were available to farmers for selling agricultural produce. Washim Agricultural Produce Market Committee has completed 126 years. Washim Agricultural Produce Market Committee was formed as per Section 13 of the Market Committee Act, and a total of 11 members were elected by the members of the Management Committee of the Service Cooperative Society, including 2 women.

A total of 18 members are working in the Agricultural Produce Market Committee, including 4 members elected by the Gram Panchayat members, 1 member elected by the license holder Hamal Mapari, 2 members elected by the license holder traders and traders, as well as the Hon. Assistant Registrar, Washim 1 representative.
